About Us

Surrey Blinds was established in 1976 by Stephen Jones (Richard’s dad). He had previously worked for other blind companies, before realising there was a gap in the market and setting up his own business. Surrey Blinds grew dramatically during the 1970s and 1980s thanks to the inception of The Greater London Council, which drew together all the London Boroughs and councils and placed them under one umbrella. Surrey Blinds was one of only a handful of blind and curtain suppliers to the GLC, and as such provided window covering services to all schools and council buildings throughout the London boroughs. It was a very busy time!  The GLC was dissolved in 1985, and at that time Stephen and the team realised it was time to broaden the scope of the products they offered and started to look towards private client work alongside the ‘bread and butter’ local authority work.
Â
Richard started working for Surrey Blinds just days after his 16th birthday, and quickly learned the ropes. Before long he was not only fitting, but also measuring and providing quotations.
Â
After the very sad, untimely death of Stephen in 2016, Richard took over the business and under his watchful eye it has continued to grow and flourish. In 2022 Richard bought Supa-Shade, a manufacturing business, primarily concerned with cased black-out blinds, which he re-located from Devon to our unit in New Addington, the businesses dovetail well and both are thriving.
